A few pictures to start with.

1. Sean O'Kennedy
2. Mary Cullen born 12 Mar 1886 in Gorey Co Wexford d 9 Nov 1969 in Allen St Wexford

They were married in the University Church in Stephens Green on 14th April 1920 in the presence of Paddy Mackey and Anne Josephine Cullen.

His profession was described as clerk and his father was a hotel proprietor.
I believe that Mary was also a clerk or book-keeper.

Paddy Mackey was a GAA legend and Anne was Mary's sister.

He moved from New Ross to Dublin to train as a clerk and as they were both interested in the Celtic revival this may have been how they met. I recall being told that he was interred during the 1916 period and there was a play performed in Wexford about his republican activities and involvement.

He changed his name to include the O'Kennedy but most newspaper stories identified him as John Kennedy. His marriage cert in 1920 is in the name John Kennedy.

Mary was a keen and talented lace maker and produced many delicate and refined pieces right up until her death. She wore a lot of lace as part of her wedding dress.

----------------
Mary Cullen was one of four children of James Cullen and Anne Kavanagh

Mary
Dick
Anne
‎(?)‎

Mary married Sean O'Kennedy

Dick married Annie Mc......? They lived in Terenure where he worked as a cabinet maker with a keen interest in restoring old grand-father clocks.

Anne worked as a book-keeper and lived at the Artisan Dwellings cottage the family rented at 9 Emmet St till she died c. 1973. For many years she worked in the Irish Hospitals Sweepstakes in Ballsbridge handwriting brown paper packages of sweep tickets to be posted to the USA ‎(where their sale was illegal)‎

The fourth member of the family was a 'black sheep' and was never mentioned in discussions. My mother discovered he was alive and in a hospital in Harolds Cross and went to visit him before he died. She arranged for him to be buried with is parents and Anne in Mt Jerome. His name etc may be on the tombstone and I will put that on my 'to do' list.

Great grandfather James Cullen from Gorey was a plasterer by trade and worked all over the east coast. He worked for the company that built the Emmet St cottages and asked for and rented one of the houses there. He plastered the ceiling of the main office of the GPO following the destruction in 1916. I understand he was a collector of rare old books in his spare time and had a keen interest in Irish history.

Anne Kavanagh was from a Gorey family that included Charlie Kavanagh who was manager of the offices of a firm of solicitors ‎(I have the firm's name)‎ in Gorey. The family albums include pictures of most of these people and I will send them to you.

I have vivid memories of visiting my great grandmother as a child and we have pictures of 4 generations together in Emmet St. I met my grand aunt Anne and grand uncle Dick and his wife "Annie Mc" many times.

Hope that's a useful starter!

Liam

Show Details Note: Text of email from Del D'Souza to Bairbre Donnelly

"Hi Bairbre, please look at the photograph that Donal O'Kennedy my first cousin sent, he lives in Florida and is the son of Uncle Gus who lived in New Ross. It consists of Mammy's family, her father James is in the front, I can't vouch for the three ladies, two in the front and one on the extreme left but presumably they are Mammy's sisters in law. Mammy is in the back row second from the right.

Reading right to left, Uncle Gus, Mammy, Uncle Paddy. Uncle Frank ‎(Jim O'Kennedy's father)‎ Uncle John ‎(great Wexford hurler and footballer)‎ Uncle Tom ‎(Sheelagh Ronayne's father)‎ and Uncle Michael who lived in the USA and perhaps that is his wife Aunt Agnes standing behind him."
